Civil War Generals
Candy Cane Robot
Inspired by the "Mr. Brute" series Horikawa Fighting Space Man and its 50/50 split-screen format. Here, the tin toy is re-envisioned using candy cane packaging, selected for its unique die-cuts and the humanoid proportions—including ear-like shapes—that emerged when unfolded.

To reinforce the aesthetic of a vintage tin robot, I abandoned traditional paints for aluminum leaf gilding. Unlike metallic paints, which oxidize or dull over time, the leafing maintains the high-specular reflectance unique to real metal.

The character is completed by a three-bar slot machine integrated into the chest’s viewing port. This "mechanical heart" creates a profound conceptual tension: while the robot’s form suggests the predictability of code and the rigidity of automation, the slot machine introduces the chaos of probability.
