Phoenix Three Forty-One

The image set for this piece felt like it had more to tell. There were moments where I had to fight to keep the ballerina included, which eventually suggested that the work might actually be stronger without her. I wanted Phoenix 341 to stand on its own, so I refused to borrow any elements from Knorr Ballerina Two. Because of this, the Chinese Knorr chicken graphic took center stage over the antique monkey face I had originally planned for. The paper itself became an unexpected highlight; I used it to create shallow plates for the "skins" of the packaging, carefully manipulating the spatial arrangement to ensure the piece felt irrational and complex rather than like a simple, stacked diorama.
